Sixth Form
Whether they wish to proceed to university or are looking at employment-based options, we know it is vital that students have access to impartial advice and guidance to enable them to have the best chance of proceeding to their desired destination.
Our Sixth Form team have years of experience of working with Sixth Form students and are well-placed to offer personalised support and guidance to them. To support students further we provide a range of opportunities – these include the opportunity to complete the Progression Module, which supports students with moving on to the next step of their career and is accredited by Leeds Beckett University and the University of Huddersfield, and Leeds Trinity University. We also work in partnership with IntoUniversity and run regular workshops and events to support students with their applications for university, and give students the opportunity to attend a UCAS exhibition held at a local university. Our fortnightly tutorial sessions on a Tuesday Period 2 include structured employability themes and information about apprenticeships, often delivered by volunteers from local companies and organisations with specialist knowledge in routes of progression post 18.
We offer bespoke support, including links with Selwyn college, for our prospective Oxbridge and Medical applicants, and have a strong track record of success with such applications. We also have good links, built up over many years, with local universities such as the University of Leeds, Northumbria University, University of Durham, Leeds Beckett University, Leeds Trinity University, University of Bradford and University of Huddersfield.
We are continually developing our work experience programme; attending a placement is an expectation for all of our Year 12 students during the summer term as a vital requirement to evidence on many University and job applications. In previous years these have included, GHM Partnership – Architects, Hyde Park, Star and Roundhay Pharmacy, Kirkstall View Primary School, Leeds Teaching Hospitals, IntoUniversity, Revive Leeds, RSM UK – Accountants, Waterstones
Ultimately, regardless of your career aspiration, at Lawnswood School you will be encouraged to embrace all opportunities and given direction to gather all the information you need to make decisions about your own unique post 18 pathway. We will always fully support you to achieve your goals.
