Ralf Thenior visit
On Wednesday 20th September, pupils of German in Year 11 were lucky enough to welcome a German poet, Ralf Thenior, into their lesson.
Ralf’s visit was part of a Dortmund-Leeds exchange initiated by Peter
Spafford, a writer from Leeds. The exchange is a pilot, funded by Leeds
City Council; a chance for each poet to discover a new place and write
their own poems about the other's city. It is a deliberate attempt, in
the wake of recent events, to reach out to the writing communities of
other European cities.
Ralf spent an hour with the pupils, talking about his hometown, answering questions about his life and reciting some of his poetry. Pupils described the visit as "interesting", "useful" and "enjoyable".
