Where to go for help when you have left school

School Help

Our Careers Co-ordinator will always try to help you once you have left even if it is just a phone call telling you what the best thing is for you to do next. Pat Periot-McCann is only available during term time and therefore it is important to know what support is available outside of school to help you to move on with your plans.

If you do need help: Pat Periot-McCann can be contacted by email on periot.pat@elawnswood.co.ukor by phoning the school.

National Help

When students leave school there is no longer a local Careers Service available. Instead there is now a national telephone and online careers service called the National Careers Service .If you've got any questions or queries about jobs, careers, learning or training, their Advisers are available between 8am and 10pm, seven days a week.https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/

National Careers Service advisers can help you:

  • develop your CV
  • search and apply for jobs
  • understand the job market
  • search for courses and training schemes
  • find funding to support any learning
  • identify your key strengths and skills
  • explore your career options
  • choose training routes that fit your lifestyle

Apprenticeships

Many School-leavers who do not want to continue in education go on an apprenticeship, which is work-based training. Apprenticeships are available to young people aged 16 – 25 in many job areas and they give students the opportunity to gain a qualification whilst working and getting training allowance. You learn on the job with an employer and study at college or with a training provider on day or block release.  Vacancies are advertised through The National Apprenticeship website
