Headteacher's Update

Dear parent / carer

I am pleased to provide updates about a range of matters that may be of use and interest to you.

The Addams Family – 5 to 7 February

We are delighted to invite family and friends to our annual school musical. This year we are presenting 'The Addams Family' - a dark comedy based on the well-known films and cartoons. Our students have been working incredibly hard on some wonderful song and dance numbers, costumes and a gothic inspired set. Performances start at 7.00pm on Tuesday 5, Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 February.

You can buy tickets through ParentPay, school reception and on the door on the night of the performance.

We very much look forward to sharing a night of comedy, song and dance with you.

New colleagues

You may have already met or had contact with our new colleagues in school this term. If you

haven’t met them yet, I am sure you will join me in welcoming the following:

Mrs Nicola Goodwill          Assistant Headteacher

Ms Jane I’Anson                   Assistant Headteacher

Ms Samantha Calvert           Teacher of PE, covering the maternity leave of Miss Hewitt

Weather disruption

As the likelihood of adverse weather increases at this time of year, you may find it useful to know where you can find up to date details about transport, school opening etc.

All known bus service cancellations and disruptions will be posted on the @metrogenm twitter page and on the school service disruption page on the Metro website: https://wymetro.com/schools/school-bus-service-changes-and-disruptions/

If you live on a minor road that is normally a bus route but which is likely to be deemed unsafe or impassable by a bus as a result of poor weather, we recommend that, if safe to do so, students make their way to a main road and wait for a bus there, as the major roads are prioritised to be cleared or gritted.

If we need to close school, to change opening hours or to change the groups of students to whom school is open, we will post the information on our website: http://www.lawnswoodschool.co.uk/ We will also inform Leeds City Council, who announce news on local radio and their website.

Year 10 target setting evening – Tuesday 29 January

From 6.00pm until 7.00pm on Tuesday, we will host our target setting evening for Year 10 students. The event, which takes place in the main hall, focuses on Year 10 student’s end of GCSE targets. It is important that school staff, students and parents work together to agree challenging but achievable targets; Tuesday evening is the opportunity to start that process.

Year 11 preparation for exams event – Tuesday 29 January

Also on Tuesday is our practical session for students in Year 11 and their parents or carers. The session will be in school from 6.00pm until 7.00pm and will share a wide range of revision strategies, suitable for all subjects and learning style so that every Year 11 is equipped to adopt effective and manageable revision tactics in the approach to summer’s exams.
